Questions About SmartCat
I would like to know why we cannot have the scanned library numbers appear on our checked out list online? Is there some, certainly not obvious, reason for this inconvience?
Doesn’t seems that it’s appearance would overwork anyone since it’s scanned not typed, into system.
I’ve finally figured out why we have to put up with dumbcat, it’s for the sake of the internet users, certainly not for the sake of the library users.
Since dumbcat shoved the internet onto my library page my blocker has to work overtime which just serves to slow down my purposes. Everytime the cursor accidently gets near that internet junk listing, which is right smack in the way when placing a hold, it opens and refuses to leave in a timely manner. Does the library get some kind of a kick back for what all the dumbcat providers are now collecting by tracking us? They certainly are selling it just as they all do.
Maybe you can tell me who is in charge of the way our account apears when we login to the library for renewals, holds, ect? Is that too, now farmed out to a 3rd party so no one can ever be held responsible for anything much less be expected to respond to the ‘public’ part of the public library?
I know this isn’t your fault Roseann, and I appreciate your efforts to answer what you can. Did you ever learn why we cannot have the date we placed a hold appear on our account, as it did back when what worked well for the public mattered to the library?

Grateful for the ACPL
It seems like the only people who post here are those who are complaining about something…and I guess I have a complain too.
People listen, you are lucky enough to have a public library within easy reach anywhere in this county, a beautiful Main and many lovely branches. You can check out and download pretty much anything from the newest DVD to one song from freegal. You get free Internet, a Dunkin Donuts coffee shop, programs and play areas for children, copy machines and free tax help…come on people.
Quit whining about every little think you don’t like and realize how very lucky you are to even have a library.
And give the poor librarians a break. They are underpaid, understaffed, and don’t have any control over how slow the computers are or whether or not you like new catalogue. Someone else always makes those decisions.
Wise up Fort Wayne and be grateful for what you have.

Storage Questions
I have reserved the book : The Crossing by Guy Vanderhaeghe, both copies are in storage at the Main Lib and I have requested one be pulled. What has me puzzled is that one of the books in storage is marked 7 day only. If the book is so popular that it can be taken out for only 7 days WHY in the world is it in storage? Perhaps the 7day only notation needs to be removed? Thanks. Liz

Technology Thoughts
I really appreciate how the Library has kept up with technology and given the public access to the Internet. I have a couple of things that I have noticed.
I have a set of Logiteck USB headphones. Since the orginal upgrade to Windows 7, there are only a few of the towers at the Main Library that recognize them. Also, on the towers that do not recognize them, the volume is at 97%, which if a patron does not realize this can blow out eardrums, causing extreem discomfort.
The other is that many patrons that use the Computer Center want to turn off the computer to end their session. Please, please, please post the same message on the Computer Center computers that is on the Readers Services computers.

Thanks for the Help
Thanks, to librarian Aisha, for her help when I had an issue with a “disappearing e-book”. She contacted Overdrive and they resolved the problem in a few days. Thanks again.

Bookcover Images Missing??
Why is it that the old practice of putting a picture of the titled item on the search page seems to be disappearing? Who’s in charge of this? Does it take place at Main or is it a by branch responsibility?
Since the library jumped on the Stupidcat train we need all the help we can get trying to do what once was a simple search, this is no time to get too busy to be bothered with those pictures.

I’m having trouble accessing my account info. I log in and see the summary, but when I click on the Holds tab, nothing happens. Help!

Praise and Ideas
As a long standing patron of ACPL I first acknowledge this is a great place for families to come and provides many services to the community. Our family as many are thankful to have this available. Our family as well as many children I have provided childcare to have benefited from story time and the whole environment of the library. We truly appreciate ACPL!
Ideas: In all the years I’ve been blessed to come to Georgetown Library there have only been a few times I can remember having a large fine issue, Through the years there have been just a few times, like the time we went on vacation and did not realize our 2 tubs of books were going to be due while we were still on vacation…you get quite busy planning and just forget. Then there has been smaller fines that we just get paid right away! In the last 2 years fines have went up HUGELY. I believe this must be a pretty good income for ACPL now. Also, the view seems to be shifting a bit from patron to $$$. Well, it seems to be the curse of our day. All eyes on $$ not people, families, children. It does sadden one to see this. For what it is worth, it would be very nice to get a txt msg. to cell phone 2-3 days prior to fines posting to account Even an email/text message when the first .25 cents posts would be keeping the patron first. There are so many times families get busy and just a little grace would go a very long way! Thank you for your time and consideration to these matters. Blessings to you all for all you do!~

Several Different Questions
I thought this was a place to rate books we have checked out.
Could be something that could be thought about. Let us give a rating and that will enable others to know if they want to check it out or not. Also there should be a way to return an audio book if you finish with it early or if it turns out not to be what you thought. I have one now I’m stuck with, but the foul language in it isn’t something I want ro hear.

Renew eBooks??
Will we eventually be able to renew ebooks without having to start the check out process over again? I have a book that expires tomorrow. It will automatically be removed from my Kindle and I’ll have to go back in and re-check it out. Will this process be made easier in the near future?
